Review of Red Planet (2000) by Allen M — 19 Feb 2009
This one is my preference of the two "Mars" movies from 2000. The other - "Mission to Mars" isn't bad, and resonates more deeply, but is so self-important and "significant" towards the end, blatantly ripping off 2001 and CETK.
Whereas THIS film is simpler and less ambitious, purely an exciting B-Movie romp with classic objective and simple villains. Stamp's retarded line readings are uncharacteristically deplorable, but Sizemore is good, and Val and Carrie-Anne have a nice scene on the radio towards the end.
Nothing special here, but I don't think it was meant to be, and that's fine.
