SUCH a disapointing movie! I LOVE Spike Lee. When I first saw SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT - I told everyone I knew there was a BRAVE new film maker who was uber talented - Spike Lee! But this was just bad, bad ,BAD. I can't actually believe that he directed it. The kids were TOTALLY miscast. The camera work was awful - I would never have believed this was directed by a brilliant artist like Lee. it looks like a Jr High class wanted to do a class project and managed to get one good actor to play the grandfather, but there was no real script and no one had any experience on the set at all. I don't care if it was low budget and shot in 2 weeks - this doesn't come close to the even lower budget SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT - and that little gem was shot DECADES ago!
And Spike has worked with some of the best actors in the biz - he couldn't find 2 really talented kids?????? Come ON!
Spike - I still love ya and I still think you will win an Oscar someday - just not for this movie!
