Review of Red Eye (2005) by Tyler M — 31 Mar 2012
Sometimes, bad things happen to good people.
It's short and too the point.
The Story: While on board a late night flight, hence the title of the film, a woman is kidnapped and forced to assist in the assassination of the head of homeland security. That's pretty much about it, the characters aren't the most original, and the film isn't sleek and stylish, but it's fast pace and energetic flow make this one mildly entertaining. There's parts here and there that feel a little overblown and over the top, but that's part of the films charm.
The Cast: Rachel McAdams, Cillian Murphy... Rachel McAdams is Lisa Reisert, the young woman in for the flight of her life... Okay that sounded cheesy I know, but what can ya do? Adding a very thin layer of sex appeal to the film, she proves that she's more than just eye candy by giving a good performance that occasionally reaches the above average mark. Cillian Murphy is Jackson Rippner, the charming kidnapper. You'll love to hate him here, guaranteed. He steals the show here giving a great, unsettling performance here from start to finish. Not his greatest role, but still pretty good.
One to Five Scale: 3.
Not even reaching the 90 minute mark, this one will still manage to keep you entertained from start to finish. This one is worth a rental at the very least, and even a possible purchase.
