Review of Red Dragon (2002) by Joshua J — 22 Jul 2013
I must confess, I did not know much of the Hannibal trilogy, except that I was to discard the fact that it was indeed a tetralogy. Therefore, I had no idea that Red Dragon was shot as a prequel to The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal. So when I got the DVD set, I watched it in canonical order. Prior to this knowledge, I thought that the movie was very good, considering that it was a first effort, at least in my mind. After learning about the prequel information, I was disappointing, because it was now obvious that while the movie is clearly a little better than Hannibal, the trajectory of the trilogy since Silence of the Lambs, was a downward one... That being said, as a movie, it was solid, and I find myself nitpicking at elements of the movie that disappointing me in a very subjective way, as opposed to objectively.
All in all, not bad, but not very good either.
Watch if you have nothing better to do.
6/10.
