Review of Red Dragon (2002) by Francisco L — 20 Dec 2014
I won't make that Silence of the Lambs comparison. It won't be fair. But this film fails largely due to its director. The visuals are boring and predictable, there is no rhythm, no depth, you get what you see.
The thrills are on the surface, the performances are mostly mediocre (and I can't really imagine Anthony Hopkins being that tasteless as Hannibal - how much I miss the eyes from The Silence of the Lambs!), even the shots are boring in their in-your-face directness and predictable shocker-y dullness.
I can say that I liked Norton but the whole film is an experience I won't come back to. Even Jodie Foster's walk to Hannibal's cell in the beginning of The Silence of the Lambs was a sensual orgy.
And here all you get is the sense that somebody missed opportunity after opportunity and went for all the wrong ideas. Too bad.
