Review of Red Dragon (1965) by Bruce S — 07 Mar 2010
I want Silence of the Lambs, only different. That was probably the phrase spoken by the people responsible for the movie.
After the disappointing Hannibal (2001), Red Dragon returns to the psychological thriller. It has some great pacing and its well directed. Ted Tally returns to write the screenplay, as he previously penned Silence but not Hannibal.
Also returning is Anthony Hopkins, and to back up the star power is Harvey Keitel, Edward Norton, and Ralph Fiennes! That was one of the weaknesses of Hannibal, there was only one good actor in that film. The first had Hopkins, Foster, and Levin to back it up.
The ending climax was incredibly suspenseful. Its very different from Manhunter (1986), but it holds up on its own.
