Review of Red Dragon (1965) by Marvin H — 04 Dec 2009
A very good film (especially for a remake/prequel) and it compares interestingly with its 1986 original Manhunter.
I feel Manhunter is a lot more suspenseful, but Red Dragon is more expository (with a lot more back story for everybody). Also it's got great actors/performances in Hopkins, Norton, Fiennes, and its great supporting cast. This one will definitely appeal to those who (like I) are interested in Lecter and those around him, and are smart enough to avoid Hannibal Rising.
It's funny, both films are kinda different in narration but both are solid, and I think that's a testament to Thomas Harris' good story.
