Review of Red Dawn (2012) by Keenan S — 31 Jan 2014
It's extremely far-fetched but proves enjoyable if you're in the mood for some mindless action and are willing to dismiss the inherent racial stereotyping as the need to create a threat in order to tell an invasion story.
Some striking visuals and an impressive up-close and personal feel are sadly marred at times by unclear direction - it isn't always clear after a fight which heroes have survived and which have perished.
Packing at least one twist I didn't see coming, one is left with the feeling the filmmakers were angling for a sequel that is unlikely ever to be made but they just about tie things off. Best enjoyed if not overthought - for instance the wider population seem to be overwhelmed and occupied remarkably quickly and where are international allies in all of this?
