Review of Red Dawn (2012) by Mike D — 30 Nov 2013
A remake of the ridiculous 1980s movie by the same name, 'Red Dawn' is a messy update that shows how a few kids could potentially save our nation from a North Korean invasion. Putting aside the craziness of the plot, 'Dawn' is a B-movie gone bad, with subpar, wooden acting performances from Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck and Josh Hutcherson, among the other supporting cast members.
Whereas the far-fetchedness of many other films can usually be tolerated because they are done well, the same cannot be said for 'Dawn,' as there are too many sequences that are just so improbable and silly that they are not even that fun to watch.
There are some good action sequences, but these are few compared with the fake brotherly angst and teenage temper tantrums that flood the screen over the course of the movie. To be sure, there is an audience for films like 'Red Dawn,' but it is surely not one that appreciates quality cinema.
