Review of Red Dawn (1984) by Ola G — 14 Oct 2008
It is the 80s in a small town in Colorado. From out of nowhere Soviet and Cuban paratroopers lands on the local high school football field. This is the beginning of World War III. A gang of teenagers manages to get away and hide in the surrounding mountains. Eventually they wage a guerilla war towards the invaders to defend and protect their country.
Well, what can I say? It was very interesting to see "Red Dawn" again and find yourself overly reminded over how the anti russian propaganda machine worked in Hollywood back in the days. Can hardly remember my opinion when I saw "Red Dawn" in the 80s, but I am afraid to say that it was seen as an ok action flick.
"Red Dawn" is an experience beyond. This.
So called patriotic teen adenture is nothing more than a true cold war paranoid guntoting 80s B-movie, where we get hilarious lines and hilarious bad acting from names such as Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Lea Thompson, Thomas C. Howell etc. I was very suprised though that they actually bothered to get people that spoke reasonably proper russian. That was some sort of plus in this otherwise very unintentionally comic feature.
I was speechless most of the time during the viewing and this can easily be on of the best/sad examples of the cold war paranoia U.S.A suffered from back in the 80s. Wow.....
