Review of Red Dawn (1984) by Gus S — 20 Jan 2009
From a technical standpoint this is a very well-made film. The action sequences are exciting and the special effects are all very convincing. The acting is solid and sometimes very intense. But, despite these advantages, it is still hard to see past the ridiculous premise and try and take the movie seriously.
But, if you take it more as a "what if" alternate reality then the movie becomes a fun (but often disturbing) guilty pleasure. One of the weakest points is the girl characters. They were convincing but were given almost no lines the entire film.
They could have been the most interesting characters and were instead pushed into the background.
