So this movie is awful. I'm not sure if and why the 80's was a time where brainless machismo and dubious morals ruled the planet, but Red Dawn certainly lives up to its manly reputation. I didn't know the capital of Texas is Houston.

In between some truly horrible dialogue (from Patrick Swayze, rest his soul, Lea Thompson, Charlie Sheen, and C Thomas Howell among others, what a powerhouse ensemble!) and the truly delusional plot are even more horrible gunfights and even more insane explosions. Things blow up, people get shot, heavy drama ensues. Rinse and repeat. It's unintentionally campy and retarded, which is responsible for the movie's charm and lasting appeal. Occasionally though it's just plain boring, which is a huge disappointment.

The DVD also has a fun feature of the "Carnage Counter", which tallies up the various acts of violence and even categorizes it.
