Review of Red Dawn (1984) by Michael A — 04 Aug 2010
For a movie that is so quintessentially 80?s, it naturally kind of falls flat. There is a strong anti-communist sentiment that is quite likeable, but the acting, dialogue, and plot are pretty lackluster.
The movie basically is an excuse to get a who?s who of 80s teen icons in one film together ? Patrick Swayze (Ghost), Charlie Sheen (?Two and a Half Men?), C. Thomas Howell (E.T.), and Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing).
The whole ?country-boys-can-survive? theme wears quite thin early on, and ending is abrupt, inconclusive, and trivial. Here?s hoping that MGM can get their act together and release the remake that?s already been shot with Thor-to-be Chris Helmsworth (Star Trek), Josh Peck (Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs), Josh Hutcherson (Cirque du Freak: The Vampire?s Assistant), and Aussie hottie Isabel Lucas (Daybreakers).
