Review of Red Corner (1997) by Dan L — 05 Dec 2007
Rather good Sino-thriller that just about avoids xenophobic sweeping generalisations while giving Richard Gere's liberal conscience a good airing. Unsubtle, it's refreshing that a major star is willing to go against commercial considerations in making such a film (China is the new big market for Hollywood pictures).
Enjoy it for the well-directed thriller that it is, although you make enjoy or be irritated by its political piquancy depending on your taste.
