Review of Red Cliff (2008) by Enrica C — 23 Oct 2009
"Red Cliff" was really a huge surprise to me; it's surely one of the best Chinese movie I've seen in the last decade, its plot did really make sense, it was much better than other fictional chinese movies, such as "Seven Swords"... John Woo did really a great job in telling a piece of story of his own country!
I was actually getting bored at the very beginning, but after 15 minutes or so I really got complitely into it... all the battles and the action scenes were really amazing. This movie is really helpful in getting our mind closer to Chinese history, and it tells a great, interesting piece it.
All the characters were very interesting and different from each other; most scenes, such as the dove's flight over the enemies ships - that was a long time since I had seen such a good scene at the movie theatre!, the first battle scene, and many others... were really great to watch.
As if this wasn't enought, the soundtrack was great too (maybe because it had something Europen in it... it wasn't really the typical Oriental soundtrack), and the whole story was very interesting to follow. Also, I loved the part that nature played in this movie; Woo had a great idea in emphasizing the role of mother nature in all the battles, and in the result of the past battles.
