Review of Red Cliff (2008) by Dwain P — 21 Nov 2009
A remarkable piece of filmmaking by John Woo, "Red Cliff" stages some of the largest battle sequences using practical effects I've seen in some time. Its CGI sequences are not nearly as impressive.
The story and storytelling are very obviously Chinese, which means that there are fanciful elements and thematic emphases that may seem a bit odd to westerners. Nonetheless, this is an epic adventure worth seeing.
