Review of Red Cliff (2008) by Fabrizio B — 08 Dec 2009
A visual feast of a movie. Director Woo returns to Asian cinema after a long absence with this historical epic. Despite some melodramatic moments, the film offers a compelling visual experience into a legendary battle in ancient China.
Woo infuses beauty into every aspect of the film. Woo gathers a talented group of Asian actors, with Leung giving a strong performance as the head general. The battle scenes are the highlight of the film and at the center.
Woo stages them in spectacular fashion and creates a visceral experience.
