Review of Red Cliff (2008) by Peter S — 11 Jun 2011
When John Woo wants to go epic, he goes epic! Nevertheless, after so much considerable Hollywood garbage, it's almost a miracle to see good directors these days return to their homeland. But an obvious thing that I couldn't anticipate before (clumsy of me) happened: he dragged Hollywood's influence back to China. Now he's some strange hybrid, bringing along unsatisfying results. Chi Bi is the perfect example of what happens if you let the famous US movie empire rape your talent. It's something you may not let go away.
Disappointment is the best word available to describe my status.
61/100.
