Review of Red Cliff (2008) by Isaac M — 13 Nov 2011
In the genre of battle-films (e.g. A Bridge Too Far, 300), this film is quite good. Not many films can set up a single battle as the crux of the entire film, but John Woo accomplishes this quite well with good pacing through the 2nd and 3rd acts.
It suffers from a very few cheesy moments, and the first half hour of the film is very awkwardly paced with no clear direction. But the good acting, likable characters and well choreographed battle scenes make it a very enjoyable film.
There was one scene we skipped that was quite unnecessary, but other than that I recommend it whole-heartedly as a good battle film.
