Review of Red Beard (1965) by Alister N — 05 Jun 2007
An epic send-off for one of Cinema's greatest partnerships. Mifune plays the hard-edged titular doctor in a performance echoing Shimuras in Drunken Angel, and only Kurosawa could pull off the blend of absurd eccentricism (bone-breaking doctor rumble anyone?) with harrowing humanism.
