Review of Red Beard (1965) by Zach E — 05 Dec 2007
Akira Kurosawa's brilliant Akahige (Red Beard) is a profoundly humanist drama detailing the evolution of a particular doctor Yasumoto from young, arrogant, and rebellious, to experienced, wise, and compassionate.
Toshirô Mifune is, as always, excellent in the role of Red Beard, a stern and dignified head doctor at the clinic and also mentor and influence of Yasumoto. The scenes between Otoyo and Chobo are some of the most emotionally powerful I've ever seen filmed.
