Review of Red Beard (1965) by Andrew H — 15 Jun 2009
Wow. That was a really good movie. I really like these old Kurosawa films, but I never seem motivated to watch them because they are slower paced that modern movies, in black and white, tend to have a slow build up, have cultural references that I miss, holy shit this thing is 3 HOURS LONG, etc. I also seem to have the reaction about an hour in that I was an idiot to not be excited about the movie I'm watching. The characters have so much depth. I think I have a soft spot for selfless altruism too.
Recommended in a big way (if you have 3 hours to kill).
