Review of Red Beard (1965) by Kenneth S — 11 Jan 2010
For his last film with director Akira Kurosawa, Toshiro Mifune turned in, possibly, his best performance of all time. Mifune plays the doctor of the title, who is the director of a medical clinic in 19th century Japan.
The film chronicles the rocky releationship between the director an a young doctor who joins the clinic. Long, slow, and deliberately paced, this is a fantastic epic from the director, a testament to the goodness of mankind.
