Review of Red Beard (1965) by Steve B — 24 Jan 2010
Akahige is the last collaboration between director Kurosawa and actor Mifune and the last Kurosawa movie in black & white. This is the powerful story of country doctor for the poor people (Mifune) and his new helper Yasumoto (Kayama) who is a selfish student fresh out of medicine school.
The story of the poor people of 19th century Japan is so powerful and sad that at the end, I couldn't hepl crying a little ... The music and cinematography are stunning!
