Review of [REC] (2007) by André Ø — 24 Sep 2010
A very effective little horror movie. Not particularly original, as its way to similar to movies like "The Blair Witch Project", "Cloverfield" and the latest addition "Paranormal Activity". Shaky hand held camera claiming to be real through amateur footage. It was fresh when I saw it in '99 (Blair Witch), and was still scary in Paranormal Activity. Nothing fresh in this movie except that it's neither monsters, witches or ghosts this time. It's "zombies", and I like zombie movies.
Good acting, good camerawork and chilling sound effects makes this a real nail biter. I haven't seen the American remake "Quarantine", and I'm not going to. I've heard its a picture-by-picture copy of this one. So basically, just for the stupid Americans that don't want (or can't) read the subtitles. For everyone else, this is a quality horror movie you can invite your friends over for a late night scare.
