Review of [REC] (2007) by Ray J — 22 Aug 2015
This is my favorite horror movie of all time.
First off, the acting is phenomenal, everyone from Angela & Pablo to the health inspector and Manu (who's a total bro, by the way) all give incredibly convincing performances, and react pretty damn realistically to the situation in the movie. But especially, hats off to Javier Botet's (and the makeup team, naturally) performance as the Medeiros girl. Despite only being featured in the last five minutes of the movie, it's one of the most frightening movie monsters I've ever seen.
Every single moment (besides two: the intro at the fire station, and the brief interlude that has Angela interviewing a few of the residents) is completely thrilling. Besides those two moments, you'll never given a break to catch your breath, which is a fantastic thing for a horror movie.
The only thing bad about this movie is that it spawned a shitty American remake (Quarantine) that completely tossed away everything that made this such a fantastic horror movie. Seriously, stay away from Quarantine.
