Review of [REC] (2007) by Durell B — 04 Sep 2015
Eerie. Creepy. Haunting. Feverishly tense. Those are just a few classic horror adjectives that [REC] is well deserving of and much more. So well done. I'm still thinking about the movie a day after I watched it.
Never has so much been done with a film under 80 minutes. Simple, yet effective. The film is seen through the eyes of a cameraman and follows the residents and news anchor through a now quarantined apartment building.
REC creates a claustrophobic feel that connects the viewer through the lense of the third person view. It's as if the audience is in the building spectating the events. The action is believable as this is exactly how I would envision a quarantine happening.
No questions being answered, high fevers with no explanations, increased panic. It's all done brilliantly. So real. So scary. I'm a firm believer that genuine scares come from unknown infections that cause host to mentally deteriorate.
That is much scarier than monsters, ghouls or goblins. A perfectly executed horror film with superb acting.
