Review of [REC] (2007) by Matthew H — 22 Jan 2012
Wow. [â-?REC] wastes no time with getting into the action, and once you're in, there's no getting out (literally).
I watched the American remake Quarantine before watching this. I sorta got bored with Quarantine mid-way through but this managed to hold my attention with its intensity. Maybe it's the way the Spanish speak with so much emotion and vibrant body language that got me hooked. The acting was definitely top notch, with Manuela Velasco leading the way, providing a very natural and convincing performance. Overall, it felt very real and candid. The shaky-cam style probably helped with the realism of it all. Plus, the virus that contaminated everyone very well seems like something that could actually happen in real life.
This is a simple, straight forward, story that is very well done. If you thought Quarantine was good, this is a superior film.
