Review of [REC]² (2009) by Kevin R — 23 Oct 2010
My daughter has tonsillitis.
A reporter has been assigned to observe and report from a fire station. When the fire station is called to a building where a woman has barricaded herself in her apartment, it seems like a perfect opportunity for the reporter to be first on the scene for a fascinating story. However, shortly after entering the building, all the residents, the police, and fire department are barricaded into the building due to a strange epidemic that threatens to kill everyone locked inside. What will happen to our beloved news reporter?
"Do not, for any reason, try to leave the building.".
Juame Balaguero, director of Rec 2, Fragile, Nameless, Darkness, and Alicia, delivers Rec. The storyline for this picture is unique and original. The cinematography is Blair Witch style; however, the special effects are solid and well presented based on the limited budget. The acting was appropriate for the content and the settings and soundtrack were well selected.
"This situation is out of control.".
Rec is a film I have been trying to see for some time. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Quarantine which made me go scoop this up. I will say this was a little better than Quarantine despite only having a 75 minute run time (it did feel a bit short); but despite the short run time, the film felt perfectly paced. I strongly recommend seeing this film if you are a fan of the horror genre.
"Try to stay calm.".
Grade: A.
