Review of [REC]² (2009) by Julie S — 30 Oct 2010

Chock-full of effective shocks, this film had me jumping all over the place. That been said, I would not label it an especially scary film as the reviews would have led me to believe. Sure the jumps terrified me but as soon as they were over I could watch the zombies/possessed mutations/whatever the hell they were chomp away on bodies to their hearts content.

'THAT' ending was a major let down after hearing all they hype, once the 'end of level boss' had lept out at us it was no longer scary watching it chase after the camera with it's Aphex twinian - Come to daddy features and everybody constantly screaming the house down just got annoying. I prefer a more subdued horror with a lot more depth - tricky to do with a handheld film clearly.
