Review of [REC]² (2009) by Sean Michael S — 20 Jan 2012

The only horror movie to date to make me shake and cry. I've sat through all Saw films unmoved, and have jumped here and there in other films. Yet, "[Rec]" was one of the most frightening films I've ever seen.

Shall I mention that I watched it in Spanish? Shall I mention that I understand VERY little Spanish? This in mind, I still understood all of the film, enjoyed all of the acting, and was genuinely frightened the entire time.

You know when you're frightened as a child of something you know isn't there? Take that sincere fear that something will kill you, and thats the emotion this film provoked. Brilliant on every single level.

The only thing that I slightly didn't like was the annoying spanish credits song that somewhat shot me out of my intense state of fear. Though to tell the truth, I feel as if that was its exact purpose.

Overall, an amazing film that I will watch over and over again... hopefully next time with subtitles.
