Review of [REC]² (2009) by Joey S — 02 Mar 2013
An excellent example of Spanish horror, [Rec] is as terrifying as it is masterfully made. It's filmed entirely with a shaky camera, but its completely justified in the context of the plot and if anything adds to the movie by making you feel more immersed in the story.
The camera isn't nearly as pointless and nauseating as it is in other movies like Cloverfield and V/H/S. The movie has a number of memorable scenes, but the one that I'm really not likely to forget is the final scene.
If you were ever afraid of the dark as a child, prepare to be scared once more. The finale is brilliantly scary and will make even the toughest horror fans shiver in terror. It's not extraordinarily deep and all of the characters are more or less one-dimensional, but as a horror movie [Rec] succeeds on all fronts and makes for one of the scariest movies of recent years.
