Review of Rebel Without a Cause (1955) by Tori S — 27 Dec 2012
Our first encounter with Jim Stark (Dean) is as he lies in the gutter, drunk. A fitting image for a film that predominantly deals with alienation and disquiet amongst the youth of the 1950s America. Jim is by no means a wayward loser however; he is a symbol of the shifting dynamic of a country adapting to monumental social and political change.
James Dean was the personification of this period in American's history. His moody screen dominance made him an overnight sensation and his untimely death made him a legend.
