Review of Rebel Without a Cause (1955) by Alex A — 21 Aug 2015
Rebel Without a Cause is by no means perfect; the dialogue is stilted in places, the supporting performances aren't great, its gender politics are retrograde, and it never really generates the same kind of power that Dean does through his central performance.
That being said, it's still a largely entertaining look at teenage malaise and budding existentialism, and this insight into the mindset of the American teenager is enough to overcome any flaws the film as a whole may have.
