Review of Rebel in the Rye (2017) by Brad S — 19 Sep 2017

I'm on the positive side of this movie. While it may not have been what so many seem to have wanted it to be, I still think it tells a compelling and interesting story about J.D. Salinger. Hoult gives a solid performance, one of his best to date, and Spacey delivers a fine supporting role as well.

The film suffers a bit from a repetitive and uncreative narrative structure and plot, but there a number of strong moments that had me engaged, and some fine filmmaking craft on the technical side. Maybe this film will find its audience more on streaming platforms over time.
