Review of Rear Window (1954) by Frank M — 22 Mar 2012
Hitchcock cleverly builts up suspense slowly early in the film, having the audience suspect Thorwald as a murderer like Jeff did. The audience is frozen with fear when Lisa is in Thorwald's apartment as Jeff panics as he notices that Thorwald is returning and he can't do anything to help.
The way Hitchcock used suspense in the final scene is chilling with the darkness and lack of sound as Jeff awaits the climax of the suspense that has him on the edge of his seat, and our seats.
