Review of Rear Window (1954) by Daniel K — 22 Jul 2013
5: I believe this was the film Hitchcock enjoyed making more than any other. It is easy to see why. It is in my All-Time Top 10. Everything is made on his massive set, so he could exert control over just about everything.
He even has the actors he works best with. Grace Kelly is simply divine and Hitchcock knows exactly how to shoot her. When I think of her, I inevitably think of her in Rear Window. This is one of a number of classic Stewart pictures, but I'd say it is her best.
Films really don't get much better than this. Perfect from start to finish. I regret that I no longer remember watching it for the first time when one wasn't necessarily sure whether Stewart was crazy or not.
It was certainly unusual to give the audience a piece of info like this that the main characters didn't even have.
