Review of Reality Bites (1994) by Max W — 13 May 2008
This coy little movie would sadley be forgotten if it wasnt for big mountains cover, of peter framptons "0h baby (i love your way)" constantly being played on "smash hits" when ever they have a movie soundtrack day.
thankfully the film is way better than the cheesy 90's pop that went with it. whinona ryder is beautifull, cute and charming as lainie. the lost 20 somthing who has just been fired from her job, and is struggling too find love in the big wide world.
whats clever about the film is how it creates too love intrests for main charicter that are equaly bad and good for her. ben stillers charecter is realy likable but stupid. and ethen hawkes charming but pretentious loner is just as endearing.
the cast of cameos from, david spade, andy dick and a fav of mine. keith david. give the film a briliant lift from "just another post teen movie" it captures life in the 90's brilliantly like the movies from the 80's that came before it.
ben stiller was actualy a good director before he was "funny old ben stiller" . this film dose what many films tried to do in the 90's and faild. it speaks to a genration whillst remaning timeless.
give it a watch, its quite rare.
