Review of Reality Bites (1994) by Kody N — 05 Jun 2008
This is a movie about a cigarette, a coffee, and a good conversation. Although it's very artistic in it's depiction of 4 different yet uniquely artistic generation Xers, I never really felt like it was something I needed or wanted to be watching.
Of all the things in the world that I could be doing at that time, I sitting here watching 4 friends smoke, drink coffee, and have a conversation. There really wasn't much to this movie (which is why many people would like it) but it really just came down to a short love movie told over a longer time.
Oh yeah, and most of the time they're unemployed so they sit around and watch TV also...it's really exciting. There are lessons to be learned here, about meat loaf and relationships, but more than that - of death, solitude, and friends.
There was more to this movie than a girl filming her friends, but not much more. My vote: 6.
