Review of Reality Bites (1994) by Zachary F — 19 Sep 2008
I had a lot of trouble relating to the characters here. I just didn't really get it at all. I mean, everyone knows life sucks. Finding a job, love, happiness... It's all tough. To me this was nothing new, so this wasn't refreshing to me.
The thing that really bothered me was Hawke's character, more so how big a piece of shit he was, and how the audience is supposed to be rooting for him and Winona Ryder's character. Did I miss something here? He's an unemployed loser who is a complete jealous ass to this sweet, adorable girl.
I thought Ben Stiller did a wonderful being the corporate dorky guy who falls head over heels. I was hoping he would end up with her. It just didn't make sense. On a positive note, I enjoyed Janeane Garofalo and Winona Ryder a lot.
Bravo.
