Review of Reality Bites (1994) by Andy P — 06 May 2012
This is proof that perfect casting do not make a great film (although it might save it, as I guess it did here). The performances were fine, Ethan Hawke especially, but there was absolutely nothing in the plot or dialogue that made me care for what happened or was happening to these people. It was perhaps too apathetic for its own good. The tagline for the film is "a comedy about love in the 90s." That the film was made before the decade was even half-over kind of warns you of its self-importance.
I seemed to be extremely critical for this film which may seem odd considering its passable rating. Again, the casting and performances were really good. It's just a shame they didn't have more to work with.
