Review of Real Women Have Curves (2002) by Jamiyah M — 09 Nov 2009
"Real Women Have Curves".
My Title: ?Real Women Confident Inside and Out?
By Kisanna Simpson-Humphrey.
This film was mostly drama and comedy and with an amazing actress who really fits into her character whom which she has to play, America Ferrera playing ?Ana? realizes that looks doesn?t concern what happens, it?s where her mind takes her.
Throughout the whole movie, her grandfather was her motivator, her mother was not giving her daughter the confident she needs. Basically, a young woman has her last day spent in school, but decides not to go to college. Her family presents a ?Congrats? party for her. Her mother wants her to go to work with Ana?s sister ?Estella? in her factory. Her teacher George Lopez playing the part of Mr. Guzman tries to persuade her to go to college and go far.
This movie to me was really fulfilling and moving! It was most about a teenage girl being teased by her arrogant mother. According to her mother, looks is what matters most about a person, but of course it?s not. America Ferrera playing the role as Ana, a high school graduate looking forward to college. She gets a scholarship to a university; alas her mother turns down the far-fetched opportunity, why? Who in their right mind would turn down a free opportunity to go to college, I would take that free ticket with no hesitation and be gone in a flash, am I right?
She works and helps her sister at a sewing factory, sewing dresses. Ana now realizes how hard she works for little pay I say, selling the dresses for $800 and getting back for the hard work $18, preposterous don?t you think! Her boyfriend from school she meets goes to Europe for college. Now, she?s willing to go to college and pursuit her life.
Some flaws in this film to me is some of the camera shots, they?re to close up. How would you like it if someone was all up in your face? I believe that the songs were appropriate to the film, but of had captions so people who don?t understand the songs.
Overall, the movie was stupendous to watch, and understand life and to understand that your look isn?t all that important, it?s what?s in your mind that is the most important because that?s how you can go far. You can have brains behind beauty.
