Review of Real Life (1979) by Jack B — 08 Jul 2008
Another Masterpiece! And like Brooks' other films, it's not just a comedic masterpiece, but an overall masterwork of filmmaking.
I love love love Brooks' concern and attention to realism, which is one of the many differences between he and Woody Allen. I love Woody Allen to death, fa sho, and he and Albert do share a very similar sense of humor, but Woody's films are like one joke after another, being told in more of a stand-up comedy sort of way, where as Brooks writes the hilarity in the moment and the character and the life. Personally I prefer Brooks' delivery over Allen's and I think Brooks a better filmmaker.
