Review of Ready to Rumble (2000) by Jeff H — 18 Jan 2011
Treating wrestling as if it could be a legit shoot fight is mildly annoying in 1985, but pure nonsense in 2000. More of a slap in the face to wrestling than a loving tribute. The set made Nitro look much lower rate than it actually was in 2000, "Jimmy King" as a wrestling idol makes fans look pathetic, and.
.. Well, DDP looks like a pompous jerk, but that apparently might be true. But anyway... I just can't imagine. If people see this and think that's what wrestling is or what its fans are like? No wonder it's genuinely reviled by a large part of the population.
Simply put, it's insulting to an actual fan of pro wrestling. But more offensive, it's insulting to an actual fan of film. Bad acting (and NOT just from the wrestlers), nothing worth being referred to as humor, and well, at least we know Vince Russo didn't book the ending because it was about as predictable as the rain in Seattle.
No swerves here: it looks bad, sounds bad, and IS, bad.
