Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Slade T — 07 Apr 2018

To sum this movie without any spoilers it is a roller coaster. Afterwards you don't question anything or want to have any deep thoughts beyond the artificial. It's pure fun. It reminded me of Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children.

Sure the CG is great but the characters don't stick. It's the world they live in and the fantastic realm of Oasis that is at the forefront. Sure this movie is based off a popular book of the same name but maybe this movie has a deeper message afterall.

There is an underdog trope in this which most heroic movies do yet why is Parzival aka Wade Watts aka Ty Sheridan holding up a clinched power fist. Is this Speilberg's way of challenging a system of inequality? It's no surprise that the movie is a tribute to 80s nostalgia yet has a funny way to view reality.

Your true self is not what you see. Fortunately in Oasis that is your true self allowing you to escape the woes of life like domestic abuse or neglect. Remember in the movies when the main girl was like super hot and dreamy well this is not the case.

No office to Ms. Cook but her birthmark was not setting her back at all. She reminded me of a character in the Adams Family meets A character in Alice in Wonderland. Parzival was like anime all day without trying, I did like how they combined pop culture in one big pot of colorfully seasoned soup.

It cave you just enough of a taste and it switched gears in a Delorean to the next item to place on the palate. Would I watch this movie again. Sure I would with a group of people while enjoying each other's company and not too entirely focused on the movie.

All in all its good to see another fantasy movie even if it is just a cheap thrill .
