Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Justin K — 08 Apr 2018
Wonderfully adapted from the Book. Normally when a story has to be changed to make it work better as a movie the changes tend to gut what makes the book great. In this case some aspects of the book had to be switched around but it all worked and worked well.
I'm not one for a line for line adaption of a book to movie. When that happens, such as the first Hunger Games, it tends to make me feel as if I wasted my time since I already seen the movie when I read the book.
Adaptions for the screen should keep the spirit of the book and make some changes that give the audience something new. "Spoiler" the puzzles were changed and they all worked. Cutting out the beginning part on Ludos was a brilliant way of cutting a 1/5th of the story out without killing the book.
By doing that and giving us a 2 hr 20 minute run time, Spielberg and Cline were able to put alot more than I thought possible into the movie. And they improved aspects such as I-roc. All in all, it was great and i'm happy word of mouth is spreading on this.
