Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Evangelos C — 09 Apr 2018
This was a fun movie. I would watch it again because it is interesting and nostalgic. That being said, there were many problems for this movie. I read the book and I understand this is a loose adaptation but the movie makers left out some details that would have pulled the movie together.
Things happen extremely fast: Artemis comes out of nowhere, Wade falls in love with Artemis in a few minutes, They jump from key to key location extremely quick. Clearly, they can't make this movie about playing a video game in a video game, but they missed some crucial ideas that help tie everything together.
The fact they expanded and pushed I-Rok's character was a definite increase in value. However, the dynamic change between Wade, Artemis and Aech with Daito and Sho was too simplified. There could have been more story arches and development.
I feel that if you took elements from both the book and and this version of the movie a secondary version of this movie would be incredible.
