Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Noah S — 09 Apr 2018
Ready Player One is a visual spectacle and a must see movie for any fan of the 80's or videos games. Steven Spielberg adds a sense of wonder that isn't as present in the book, hardcore fans of the book are sure to be at least a little upset by that.
As a viewer who hasn't read the book, I enjoyed the Spielbergian wondrous world of The Oasis. The limitless possibilities and thrilling adventures portrayed in this film are enough to excite any audience member, and makes this one of my favorite recent movies.
However, as much as I'd like to do nothing more than praise Ready Player One, there is a distinct lack of real life consequences or conflict. Although it makes sense, seeing as the people in this world are more interested in The Oasis then in Earth.
But the audience is left with the same disinterest in this version of Earth as its inhabitants.
