Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Doug H — 09 Apr 2018
Watched this movie twice! My family enjoyed it that much! Great Popcorn movie that is so full of nods to the 80's, 90's, and Gaming that YouTubers will be spending months making videos trying to document them all.
The movie deviates from the book but in a enjoyable way. Considering recent events Ready Player One's villain could easily be compared to Andrew Wilson, his Loot Boxes, and EA is the perfect real world version of IOI.
That being said what makes Ready Player One so awesome is that unlike other popular Franchises this movie is just pure enjoyment; two (2) hours with no annoying identity politics or other politics to stain it.
Heroes just being heroes with well written characters that are not defined by their race, age, or sexual orientation. Ready Player One is a great return to what movies used to be about; fun! There are some interesting concepts and ideas that are developed in this dystopian future movie that would make for fun debates and discussions but nothing to spoil the fun or create akward situations with family; sorry but having to explain to my 8yr daughter why "Heroes" would rescue animals but abandon slave children was odd.
The female lead is a great character that stands on her own, and while the lead may be one of the weaker characters in the film he still portrays the regular Joe and a heroic journey rather well. We will be owning this when it is released on Blu-Ray and Please make a sequel with the same FUN magic! With all the cr4p we have to deal with in the real world today do yourself a favor and escape for a few hours to a world where the good guys win, and our childhood passions are not evil.
