Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Giorgio G — 11 Apr 2018
For all you folks who do RPGs (Role Playing Games), especially nowadays with those 3D Virtual Reality Glasses, this is surely the ultimate thrill. Sure it's a teen movie, with all those typical scenes and very light jokes which are guzzled up by kids around the world (well, what do you expect from a Steven Spielberg movie), but even for old folks like me, especially movie buffs, this flick is quite entertaining as it includes any character that one has seen in a video game or movie within the last 50 years, from Chucky to the Iron Giant, from Ermac (Mortal Combat) to Q-Bert, etc.
On that account, seeing all those icons glued together in one single flick, it's quite hilarious. The few people killed in the real world are naturally not shown, this being a PG13 movie, so all the slaying, maiming and killing goes on in the Virtual World (where the censors obviously and strangely enough have no problem with it).
And there, in that gaming world, the sky is no limit for the visuals, as they can naturally go way beyond the universe and our weirdest personal imagination. All in all 127 minutes of fun for all ages.
6/10 points.
